Last week I posted about this Rails shirt from South Moon Under and how I would style the piece for hot summer days. Stripes in summer are a perfect match, right? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love clothing items I can wear multiple times and multiple ways. This shirt is one of those transitional items that works well dressed down for a casual summer day and dressed up for grabbing some drinks.

Earlier this week Jeff and I decided to take a walk around Central Park after work. The sun was reaching the peak of golden hour when we got to the Bow Bridge, creating a beautiful light to gaze over the water and watch the row boats passing by. Although the weather has been super warm in NYC, the breezy linen of this Rails shirt left me quite comfortable in the outdoor heat.

Weekend in Burlington

This past weekend we headed up to Burlington, Vermont to spend a few days enjoying the lake, getting some sunshine and of course partaking in some local Vermont beers. It has become a tradition among the Farina siblings to attend the Vermont Brewer's Festival every year in Burlington. While we missed last year's event, this summer was still our 5th year attending the Brewfest with all us Farina kids. Not too shabby of a track record.

Spring Stripes

This weekend we had my most favorite weather ever in NYC - cool enough to bring a jacket but warm enough in the sun that you don’t really need it. My parents were visiting this weekend so I was out and about all day Saturday. The nice weather was perfect for light layers, so I opted for a few of my favorite casual pieces - white jeans, striped tee and army jacket. 

Internal Stripes

I've been dragging and saving various images of interiors on my computer for some time now. For awhile they hadn't been much more than a mindless hobby, but since I am actually moving to a new house soon (!!!) they seem relevant. Well, relevant if I was moving into a large, modern home in the Malibu hills with an unlimited decorating budget, but hey, semantics.

Going through my collected set of photos, I realized a theme; stripes used in home decor. Sounds strange I know, but the result is chic, modern with a quirky twist. I'm not sure I have the energy to tackle a whole wall, but picking up a striped rug can't be too difficult to accomplish.

Trend to Try: Black and White Stripes

Stripes traditionally bring thoughts to mind such as, preppy, sailors, Elvis (just me?), but these days stripes are getting a little more cool cred. As seen on celebs like Lauren Conrad and Lo Bosworth, both of The Hills, and Harry Potter's Emma Watson, black and white stripes look fresh for fall.
When going for stripes, keep things basic and neutral in the rest of your outfit. Jeans are a great compliment, as seen on the lovely ladies above, as well as anything black, white or navy. I would recommend adding color with an accent piece, such as a bright bag, or vibrant necklace.
Whether bold and thick, or thin and dainty, stripes can easily go from day to night. Take some cues from these fashionable females for how to rock the trend. Wear 'em a blazer or leather jacket for night, and a simple sweater for day. However you wear it, stripes are sure you get you noticed, and probably put a smile on someone's face. I mean, who can deny their love for Jailhouse Rock?
