Wardrobe Rehab : Session 3, New Season Additions

This is the third installment of my Wardrobe Rehab series, where I have been walking you guys through how I edit, evaluate and expand my wardrobe at the start of a new season. We started first with Cleaning Out Your Closet and then Re-Thinking What You Already Own. Today I am highlighting what is on my Fall Shopping List for the remainder of the year and which items I plan to save vs. splurge on.

Transitional Skirts

It is becoming that wonderful time of year when your skin still has it's lingering summer tan yet the weather is cool enough that you can actually wear some layers without melting. It is time for transitional dressing!
When I used to work at URBN INC. this was actually referred to as it's own season - TRANS, short for transitional. Which doesn't sound particularly chic but the in-between-point of seasons is actually a great time to test out some stylish looks and texture combinations for a totally new look.
I began pinning looks onto a Fall 2016 board (which you can find here), but I found that I was basically pinning transitional looks that I will be wearing until Fall, not actually for Fall. So I decided to pull together some looks that are particularly inspiring to me right now and explain how I plan to get the most out of my summery items before the cold comes.
I decided to focus this post on skirts and how to wear them in the upcoming month or so. I love, love, love the combination of a chiffon skirt with a casual grey sweater, it looks so effortless and cool. I am also really into tee-shirts, both graphic and solid, and pairing them with fancy separates like tailored cream trousers or a black skirt with a high slit, as seen above. Your summery skirts can stay in your wardrobe rotation a bit longer this year if you pair them with ankle boots, a leather jacket and fall accessories like a wool hat.

When recently cleaning out my closet I came to the realization that my skirt game is lacking a bit. I plan to pick up a few more basic options now that I can wear for trans but will be easily re-worked for many seasons to come. On my shopping list: a cream midi skirt with lots of volume & movement; a side-draped pencil skirt; a patterned chiffon midi skirt and a black pleated knee-length. Check out a few of my picks in stores right now below!

Packing For : San Francisco

We are heading out to California on Friday for a multi-city trip and I could not be more excited to get out West. We will be visiting San Francisco, Napa, Big Sur and Lake Almanor. I was in Los Angeles for the Create+ Cultivate conference in May but I have not been to San Francisco since I was about 14 years old and the other places on our itinerary I have not been to ever!

Blue on White on White

Clockwise:
James Perse Tank : more options here & here
Chloe & Chase Sandals (50%, only a few sizes left!)
Gorjana Power Stone Bracelets (30% off)

White on white is the perfect summertime look in my opinion. This look is super simple and can probably be achieved with items you already have in your closet. By now hopefully you have come to realized how versatile white jeans are and you already have a pair in your closet that you love. A white cotton tank is another wardrobe must and can be found at any price point, from $15 to $100.

In this look, I love how the blue looks so clean and refreshing against the white. Simple nude sandals and a straw hat add texture without overpowering the light clothing. To really seal the deal on this look, do a half-tuck with the tank and hang your sunglasses on the neckline - it’s all about the styling!

Let's Getaway To : Charlotte, NC

3. Shirtdress

I'm traveling down to North Carolina this weekend to visit my parents and I am very much looking forward to the warm weather, lake views and southern hospitality. Their house is just outside Charlotte, near Lake Norman. They are right in Davidson, a cute college town full of charm. I am especially excited to just relax outside with a book and enjoy some family time. It's funny how much more you appreciate nature and being at home with family when you live in a city like New York. When we were down over Christmas my siblings, Jeff and I tried out some of the breweries near our house. This visit we are going to make a trip to Asheville, which I have heard great things about. I'm sure there will be pictures on my instagram!

Being down south makes we want to be a little preppier than normal, this weekend I'm packing nautical stripes, casual dresses, a classic straw hat and some tortoiseshell shades. Can't forget the staple denim shorts either!

What's everyone's weekend plans? Any trips?

What To Wear : May Date Night

It's fun to get dressed up now and then for a date night with your significant other. I like to take these outings as as an opportunity to wear something a little nicer, as usually a (traditional) date night doesn't involve a crowded bar or tons of walking. In my opinion, a pair of shoes I wouldn't want to stand in all night is perfect for a dinner date, ie. where I will be sitting and/or taking a taxi as transport.

Wear Now, Wear Later : Gingham Top

I have been seeing gingham tops around and I love the look. While it can definitely swing preppy, it really matters how you wear it. Before investing in this print for the season, I took it upon myself to come up with some outfits that I could wear it a gingham blouse with.

Since the weather is still cool out (at least in New York), for the ‘Wear Now’ look I wanted a way to wear this shirt where I wouldn’t be freezing or look totally seasonally out of place. This shirt screams summer so I also put some thought into how this would work for a hot day for the ‘Wear Later’ look. I imagine wearing this to brunch with my family this month and then breaking it out for a day in Central Park come June or July.

Get all the piece details below and check out some of my other favorites gingham pieces for sale right now. Let me know what you think of the looks!

What To Wear This Week : Spring Transition Pieces

I must say, I really do love that transitional period between winter and spring when things are just warm enough to need only a jacket; you can wear layers without being hot and not wear layers without being cold. For someone like me who loves layering, textures and adding dimension to an outfit, it is the perfect time to add more to a look without either sweating or having to cover it up with a coat anyway.

To feel both springy and keep yourself warm, I recommend combing some warm weather items (sandals, boyfriend jeans) with some weight and texture (leather jacket, embellished clutch).

A classic striped shirt is something I wear year round, it works just as well with boots and a scarf as it does with a bathing suit as a cover-up on the beach. Boyfriend jeans have been around for a number of seasons now, but there is a reason they haven't quite gone out of style - they are comfortable and they convey the perfect amount of nonchalance. I have a few pairs in my closet but have been eyeing up these for a few weeks now. A leather jacket is a closet staple worth investing in, I got mine years ago and it is still in great shape.

As those of you who have been following along on my blog and my instagram can probably tell, I have fallen deep in the love haze with boyfriend jeans. Perhaps it is in response to getting back into a semi-corporate environment for my job, that makes me really want a casual easy look on my downtime.

Jeans (Forever21) / Shoes (Loeffler Randall) / Bag (Anthropologie) / Shirt (Forever21) / Jacket (old) / Sunglasses (purchased in Thailand) / Watch (Michael Kors)

Neutral Territory

Winter is finally starting to wear down but the weather is still cold out. Online and in stores I keep seeing spring clothing and I have this insatiable urge to wear warm-weather clothing. What’s a girl to do!?
