Mid-Summer Mood Board

We're reached the mid-summer mark for 2016, at least in my opinion. Which means we are at the height of heat and sunshine. It is officially that time of year on the East Coast when sleeves become oppressive, sandals become necessary and water truly is the elixir of life.

I find at this time of year I get into a style rut. For work it is any breezy dress I can throw a sweater or blazer on top of and for the weekends it's jean shorts and tank. I thought this was the perfect time to put together a new mood board for Mid-Summer.

Right now I am really loving mixes of pastel pink, blue and green with pops of dark and kelly green, black accents and of course clean, crisp white. Ruffled easy dresses, versatile nude sandals and my favorite fedora are all finding their way into the look.

What are your favorite pieces from this season? Let me know in the comments section! Check out some of my new favorites for getting my Mid-Summer Mood below.

Summer Workwear

Dressing for work in the summertime is tough. You need something that will be breezy in the sticky, hot air outside but will also keep you warm in the frigid temperatures inside the office. Every workday morning in NYC I hike to the subway (usually at a fairly fast clip, since I am a 'New Yorker' now) and arrive on the platform where I am met with stale, thick air. All that heat I generated speed-walking increases exponentially in the subway. Before I know it I'm sweating...in my nice work clothes. Then I get to work and the AC is so high it feels like wintertime. I need a jacket or sweater to keep warm at my desk! The struggle couldn't be more real.

In the summer I am on the hunt for work items that are easily layered and can transition from hot streets to cold meeting rooms. Sometimes though what I really need is not a new outfit but some fresh inspiration for how to wear the pieces I already own. I decided to combine those two needs into this post - some new pieces that you can add to your wardrobe and some new ideas for how to wear what you have. And most of all, outfits that will keep you warm and/or cool this summer for work.

Culottes :  Culottes are big this summer and they make for a perfect work pant. If you love a good cropped trouser for work, consider this your summer fling. An ivory pair can work with just about everything in your wardrobe and a looks of-the-moment chic. I like how the striped tee in the above outfit adds a nautical vibe but these pants would also look great with a simple shell top and blazer.

Mood Board - March Edit

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/87749892718342354/

When I left my fashion design job three years ago to attend business school, I didn't put too much thought into how my creativity would be impacted. I was used to being surrounded by fabrics, colors, textures and silhouettes all day. Whether researching trends online or attending model fittings or developing color boards, I was able to channel my creativity into my work.

its been a long time...

I haven't posted on here in a long time. Somehow all this cornell design league work catches up to you, and it's only three weeks away! Correction, not three weeks, 18 days. 18 days! Ah, panic sets in; my palms are getting sweaty, my leg starts to twitch, I can just hear my alarm now, waking me up after 4 hours of sleep and calling me back to the studio....
Anywho, in the spirit of the upcoming public display of my sewing skills, design aesthetic and strange reasoning to make garments out of feathers, I decided to post some of my inspirations for the collection;
hopefully get my spirits rejuvenated to get my little self into the studio, suck down that coffee, and git-er-done.
It's just about crunch time. Where did the hours go....
