This past weekend we headed up to Burlington, Vermont to spend a few days enjoying the lake, getting some sunshine and of course partaking in some local Vermont beers. It has become a tradition among the Farina siblings to attend the Vermont Brewer's Festival every year in Burlington. While we missed last year's event, this summer was still our 5th year attending the Brewfest with all us Farina kids. Not too shabby of a track record.
We had tickets for the Saturday night session of Brewfest, which meant we had all day Friday and most of Saturday to explore and hit up our favorite local spots.
Church Street in downtown Burlington is always full of activity and is one of my favorite places to visit when in town. There are tons of shops, bars and vendors up and down the street, making it a great place to meander and people watch. Church Street is also home to some of our favorite food stops in Burlington. We love The Red Onion for it's namesake sandwich, Uncommon Grounds for a good cup of coffee and Saratoga Olive Oil Co. for some tasty oils and vinegars.
Since we weren't hitting up Brewfest until Saturday evening, we found some time on Friday to try out Citizen Cider. Jeff, Julie and I all opted for the cider tasting flight so we could try a few options. My favorites were the B'Rose (a rose-type cider), The Dirty Mayor (similar to ginger beer) and B-Cider which was cider infused with bee honey. I ended up getting some extra bottles of The Dirty Mayor and the B'Rose to bring home with me because they were so good. Friday night we went to Hen of the Wood for dinner, after receiving multiple recommendations for the restaurant from friends. The food did not disappoint, we shared a ton of plates and had no problem finishing everything off. I would definitely recommend it to others!
The Spirit of Ethan Allen is one of those touristy Burlington things that my sister and I end up doing every summer. It is a big boat that cruises all around Lake Champlain, explaining famous shipwreck sites and providing history of the lake. It's kinda cheesy, but we love it! This weekend was Jeff's first time in Burlington so of course we had to take him on our favorite cruise. The boat also happens to be a great way to get some awesome views of the lake and surrounding terrain.
We were at Burlington's Beverage Warehouse not one but two mornings in a row so that we could get packs of Lawson's Sip of Sunshine IPA and a few other limited quantity beer releases. Made and sold only in Vermont, Lawson's top-rated Sip of Sunshine beer is hard to get, even when in town. Lucky for us we were able to max out on our can-allotment both mornings. Along with a wide assortment of other varieties, we came home on Sunday with an absurd amount of beer. A beer fridge was purchased Monday morning so we can free up some of our fridge space for actual food - true story.
One of the best parts of the Vermont Brewer's Festival is that it is held right on the lake. We always opt for the Saturday night session, which means you get beautiful sunset views over the water as your sip your beers. It is a great family tradition of ours and a total blast.
What's better than a summer evening sipping some beers?
Another great summer weekend. Already looking forward to Brewfest next year, hopefully we will recruit even more friends and family to join!
