With the heat wave we have going on in NYC right now, I have been dreaming about fall weather. One trend I have my eye on in particular is mini-fringe and ruffles. Neither of these texture treatments are anything new, but in the Resort 2017 shows many designers added theses classic cowgirl and schoolgirl details in sophisticated and modern ways.
The
See By Chloe collection showcased fringe on skirt hems and horizontally
down the length of both skirts and sleeves. Rows of contrasting colors created a
striped effect with lots of texture. I particularly love the full
mini-skirt with striped fringe and imagine this working great with
booties and a fall coat.
Carven added mini ruffles to fitted tops and shirt, playing up the
femininity factor. Paired with graphic tees and menswear-inspired pants,
the ruffles look cool and tone things down from being overly sweet. Toss a blazer on and
any of these mini-ruffle looks suddenly seem perfect for work attire.
Apiece Apart added fringe to ponchos and coats, creating a collection that was bohemian yet still sophisticated and clean. Taking
things a step further, they also added fringe to the black sandals worn
throughout the collection. Simple silhouettes and solid colors let the
fringe stand out without overpowering these looks. A soft grey fringed
sweater-coat like the above would work great with skinny jeans and boots for fall
temps.
