We are heading out to California on Friday for a multi-city
trip and I could not be more excited to get out West. We will be visiting San
Francisco, Napa, Big Sur and Lake Almanor. I was in Los Angeles for the Create+ Cultivate conference in May but I have not been to San Francisco since I was
about 14 years old and the other places on our itinerary I have not been to
ever!
It is still very much summer in New York, with the exception
of yesterday and today, it has been super hot and super humid. I am so ready to
get to the cooler weather in San Francisco. This time, unlike my last trip to
SF, I will be prepared for the drop in temperature as it compares to the East Coast.
The weather is going to be mid-60s during the day and high
50s at night. Very different than 95 and humid! I started thinking about what I
am going to pack and I wanted to bring some pieces that were summer to fall
transitional, that let me linger in August a little longer but added some
warmth as well. For our time in SF I am bringing some simple black pieces like this dress and these shorts, preppy cream and navy on this sweatshirt , striped tee & sweater, and trendy accessories like these lace-up flats, black woven hat and tortoise sunglasses. A patterned silk scarf adds just enough warmth while still looking summery. I don't travel without my favorite boyfriend jeans so these had to make the cut too.
My packing approach for shorter weekend trips is usually to
plan out every outfit I will be wearing so I do not lug excess items. But my tactic
for longer trips is almost the opposite- I focus less on the specific outfits I
will wear and more on bringing pieces I can mix and match for different
days/events. Staying within a specific color palette, in this case black, cream
and navy, I know I will be able to wear everything multiple times and multiple
ways.
